About Humangood

HUMANGOOD refers to a chain affiliated with HumanGood, which is a California-based nonprofit public benefit corporation founded in December 1988 (originally known as Carmel Senior Housing, Inc.) HumanGood as a brand emerged in 2016 from the merger of two long-standing nonprofit senior-living organizations.

HumanGood is a nonprofit organization with multiple affiliated subsidiaries organized in obligated groups—for example, HumanGood California Obligated Group, HumanGood National Obligated Group, and HumanGood Affordable Housing. HUMANGOOD’s skilled-nursing chain includes both nonprofit-corporation-owning facilities (~94.1%) and a small minority of for-profit LLC-owned facilities (~5.9%) according to CMS classification.

The skilled-nursing chain includes 17 facilities spread across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington, consistent with the number and locations reported in CMS-derived chain analysis. HumanGood overall operates over 100 affordable housing communities in five states (California, Delaware, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington) serving more than 9,200 residents. They also run 'Life Plan Communities' across 125+ locations nationwide.

HumanGood’s offerings include Life Plan Communities (services spanning independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing), and Affordable Housing Communities for low-income older adults. The HUMANGOOD skilled-nursing facilities are part of its continuum of care, chiefly under its Life Plan Community operations.

A notable organizational event: on February 1, 2024, HumanGood affiliated with Pleasant Spring Communities (which oversees Springhouse and Mount Pleasant Home in Boston). Additionally, in May 2023, HumanGood acquired a Life Plan community in McMinnville, Oregon, via a subsidiary HG Hillside LLC.
