About Commonspirit Health

CommonSpirit Health is an American health system operating as a nonprofit and governed by Catholic health ministry traditions. It emerged in February 2019 from the merger of Dignity Health (originally Catholic Healthcare West, founded in 1986) and Catholic Health Initiatives (begun in 1996). Its foundational ministries come from traditions of the Sisters of Mercy, Franciscan Health System, and Sisters of Charity, shaping its mission-driven structure.

As of the latest available data, CommonSpirit manages 142 hospitals and more than 700 care locations in 21 states, making it one of the largest nonprofit hospital systems and the largest Catholic health network by revenue. Additionally, the system spans over 2,200 care sites and employs tens of thousands of providers and nurses across 24 states, reflecting the broad scope of its operations.

CommonSpirit offers a continuum of care that includes hospitals, outpatient services, physician practices, virtual care, post-acute services, and community health initiatives. Among its offerings, it is involved in skilled-nursing operations. According to NursingHomeDatabase.com, CommonSpirit is involved with 19 skilled nursing homes in at least 10 states, including California, Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Washington, and Wisconsin.

The system is known for integration across care levels, and its SNF network appears to be just one layer of its extensive care infrastructure. However, it does not appear to operate a branded standalone 'CommonSpirit Skilled Nursing' chain; instead, its SNF involvement is through its broader regional or affiliated entities.
