Western Home Communities

Western Home Communities is a charitable Christian service organization providing a continuum of senior living and long-term care services, including skilled nursing, memory care, assisted living, independent living, wellness, and outpatient therapy in Iowa.

Western Home Communities traces its roots to the founding of The Western Old People’s Home of the Evangelical Association in Cedar Falls in 1912, funded by the Pfeiffer family. It became an independent, not-for-profit community service organization in 1983 after affiliations with church bodies ended.

It operates as a non-profit under Western Home Services, Inc., supported by the Western Home Foundation (established 2000) for philanthropic support. It is not publicly traded and appears to be independent—not PE‑backed or REIT affiliated.

Western Home Communities is based in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and operates a campus on a 150-acre south Cedar Falls site with extensive facilities including independent living communities, assisted living, memory care cottages, skilled nursing cottages, villas, wellness center, and outpatient therapy.

They offer a full continuum of care—including memory care ('The Cottages,' Iowa’s first freestanding small-house nursing homes for dementia), skilled-care suites ('The Suites at Western Home Communities'), outpatient therapy, independent living, wellness center (Jorgensen Plaza), at‑home care, and innovation programs such as apprenticeship and international workforce initiatives.
