Saint Therese Senior Communities

Saint Therese Senior Communities is a nonprofit senior care provider rooted in Benedictine, Catholic values that emphasizes community, reinvestment of proceeds into care services, and a mission of serving with 'extraordinary love.' Founded in 1964 in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) by a group including Jerry Choromanski, Fr. Gordon Mycue, Elizabeth Hidding, and Sr. Marcelline Jung, the organization’s first resident moved into its New Hope facility in January 1968.

Over the decades, Saint Therese expanded: adding senior apartments in 1979; assisted living and memory care programs in 2002; the Midwest’s first palliative care unit in 2003; and opening new communities in Brooklyn Park (Oxbow Lake) in 2006, Shoreview (St. Odilia) in 2011, and Woodbury in 2016. In 2023 they expanded beyond Minnesota by sponsoring IHM Senior Living Community in Monroe, Michigan. In 2024, they began serving Ohio by acquiring St. Mary of the Woods in Avon, bringing a full continuum of care to that campus.

Saint Therese operates as a nonprofit corporation, reinvesting any financial surplus into communities, programs, and services—with a foundation supporting pastoral care, programming, capital improvements, and endowments. Their communities provide a broad continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, transitional care, rehabilitation, and hospice/palliative care.

As of June 1, 2026, CMS-based reports indicate Saint Therese Senior Communities oversees four skilled-nursing facilities, one in Michigan (IHM Senior Living Community, Monroe), two in Minnesota (Saint Therese at Oxbow Lake, Brooklyn Park; Saint Therese of Woodbury, Woodbury), and one in Ohio (St. Mary of the Woods, Avon). These facilities average 4.5 stars, with 2 at 5 stars and 2 at 4 stars, and show strong staffing (average hours per resident ~4.69) and no safety concerns.
