National HealthCare Corporation, also known as NHC, is a U.S.-based, publicly traded company providing a continuum of senior care services. Its offerings include skilled nursing, assisted and independent living, behavioral health hospitals, homecare, and hospice services. The company also provides support services like management, accounting, insurance, and leases real estate to third‑party operators.
NHC began operations in 1971, and since then it has steadily expanded its footprint. It is incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. As of the end of 2025, NHC operated facilities and agencies across nine states, concentrated in the Southeastern and Midwestern U.S.
NHC is publicly listed on the NYSE American exchange under the symbol NHC, making it a publicly held company. Its corporate structure includes ownership and management of a mix of facility types, and it also leases property to other operators.
