Methodist Retirement Communities

Methodist Retirement Communities was established as a Methodist Church-affiliated ministry in 1962. It originated when the Moody Foundation gifted the Bu​ccaneer Hotel on Galveston Island to the Texas Annual Conference, prompting the charter of the Methodist Home for Older People, later renamed MRC, and reopening in 1962 as a retirement community called Moody House.

Since its founding, MRC has expanded across Texas, opening or acquiring multiple communities. Highlights include Crestview Retirement Community (Bryan) in 1970, PineCrest in Lufkin in 1992, Cornerstone in Texarkana in 1996, Creekside (formerly TownCreek) in Huntsville in 2013, The Crossings in League City in 2015, Mirador in Corpus Christi in 2019, and Stevenson Oaks in Fort Worth in 2022.

The organization operates as a nonprofit corporation with a Christian heritage at its core. Each community is a 501(c)(3) entity and reinvests any surplus into resident services, including a Resident Covenant Fund to aid residents who outlive their resources. MRC’s mission emphasizes servant-leadership rooted in its ICARE values—Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.

MRC provides a range of senior living and care services: independent living, assisted living, memory support, long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and home health—all within its campus communities across Texas.

As of February 2026, MRC is affiliated with six skilled-nursing facilities in Texas: Cornerstone (Texarkana), Crestview (Bryan), Mirador (Corpus Christi), MRC Creekside (Huntsville), MRC The Crossings (League City), and Pinecrest (Lufkin).
