About Lifespark
Lifespark—formerly known as AgeWell—was founded in 2004 by Joel Theisen, BSN, RN. The company was created out of frustration with fragmented, reactive senior care models, aiming to use a whole-person, integrated approach that considers emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness.
Lifespark is privately held, with no indication of being a public company. It partners with owner/investor groups and REITs such as LTC Properties to expand its footprint.
Lifespark operates primarily across Minnesota and Wisconsin—it serves the Minneapolis/St. Paul region and beyond—and as of January 27, 2026, manages more than 50 senior living communities, with plans for significant growth and to reach nearly 100 locations by end of 2027.
Lifespark’s model—referred to as COMPLETE Senior Living—integrates senior living management, SPARK Growth and Wellness, Lifespark Medical Group (in-home primary care), hospice, skilled home health, in-home urgent response services, community home care, hospice, and transportation through Lifespark GO!
The model aims to reduce hospital and emergency department visits, drive affordable and coordinated care, and support independence and wellbeing for seniors; its occupancy across senior living communities averages 95–100%, well above industry norms.
