About Concordia Lutheran Ministries
Concordia Lutheran Ministries traces its origins to 1881 when Christian and Margaretha Oertel established a mission for orphans and the elderly in Cabot, Pennsylvania. Formally founded as the Evangelical Lutheran Concordia Home for Orphans and the Aged, it began with a farm and orphanage mission on a 46-acre property.
Over the decades, Concordia shifted its focus toward senior care: a Home for the Aged opened in 1908; by 1958 the orphanage closed to prioritize senior services. Its first dedicated skilled nursing facility was Markus Hall, launched in 1982.
Today, CLM is a nonprofit corporation supported by regional LCMS (“Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod”) churches, governed by a board elected from member congregations.
The organization has grown into a large aging services network offering adult day care, retirement living, personal care, skilled nursing, hospice, home health care, medical equipment, therapy services, and spiritual care.
It serves over 50,000 individuals annually, is CARF-accredited, and received the inaugural Pennsylvania Department of Aging Excellence in Quality Care Award.
