About Catholic Charities New Hampshire

Catholic Charities New Hampshire is a nonprofit organization established in 1945 and affiliated with the Diocese of Manchester. It serves as a broad-based human services provider across the state, addressing numerous social needs—from senior care and healthcare to food assistance, mental health, housing support, and more.

Its origins trace back to Bishop Matthew F. Brady founding New Hampshire Catholic Charities in 1945 with just three staff. Early efforts included managing orphanages and gradually expanding into adoption services and residential care for vulnerable populations.

From the late 1940s, CCNH entered senior healthcare by constructing nursing facilities: St. Teresa’s Manor and St. Francis Home opened in 1948, followed by St. Ann (1958), St. Vincent de Paul (1963), and Mt. Carmel (1969). It later acquired Warde Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in 2015, expanding it further with independent living and assisted living wings by 2019.

Currently, CCNH owns and operates seven skilled nursing facilities, four independent living communities, and one assisted living facility, serving over 1,000 seniors annually and encompassing 22 service locations statewide. It also leads other prominent programs: the New Hampshire Food Bank, immigration services, veteran housing, mental health programs, and more.

CCNH is the largest human services agency in New Hampshire, with nearly 1,000 employees, serving approximately one in twelve state residents annually.
