About Bjc Healthcare

BJC HealthCare is a nonprofit healthcare organization headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, and part of the larger BJC Health System. It operates a network of 12 to 24 hospitals across Missouri and Illinois, alongside a wide array of services that include home care, behavioral health, medical group practices, and long-term care facilities.

It was founded in 1993. Over time, BJC HealthCare has expanded, and on January 1, 2024, it officially merged with Saint Luke’s Health System to form the combined BJC Health System, now branded as 'BJC Health.'

Ownership-wise, BJC HealthCare is a nonprofit entity; post-merger, it operates under the parent brand BJC Health System with two regional identities: BJC HealthCare (East Region) and Saint Luke’s Health System (West Region).

BJC has a considerable regional footprint—in addition to its hospitals, it offers long-term care, home health, rehabilitation, behavioral health, and outpatient services across Missouri, southern Illinois, and parts of the Midwest; collectively it employs roughly 48,000 caregivers and achieves billions in annual revenue.

While BJC does not primarily operate skilled-nursing facilities in the traditional sense, CMS data indicate affiliation with three facilities providing skilled-nursing or rehabilitation services: Alton Memorial Rehab & Therapy (Alton, IL), Christian Extended Care & Rehabilitation (St. Louis, MO), and one other.
