About Altercare

Altercare was founded in 1973 by the Schroer family and has grown under their continued ownership. Operating as a family‑owned corporation, it provides a continuum of services in post‑acute rehabilitation, short‑term skilled nursing, long‑term care, memory care, and senior living across Ohio.

As of June 1, 2026, Altercare comprises 22 facilities in a single state (Ohio), with all sites certified for Medicare and Medicaid. The chain includes no large facilities (120+ beds), though one is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). The operator manages a broad network of center‑based care across urban and rural Ohio communities.

Ownership and governance are concentrated within the Schroer family and the Schroer Group.
