About Acts Retirement-Life Communities

ACTS Retirement‑Life Communities emerged from the concern of a Philadelphia pastor and church members who wanted a dignified retirement option for older members. The organization opened its first community in 1972 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (now Fort Washington Estates), and has grown into one of the largest not‑for‑profit CCRC operators in the U.S.

As a not‑for‑profit entity anchored in Christian values and a “Culture of Loving‑Kindness,” ACTS emphasizes spiritual care, dignity, and respect in its mission and community approach.

Headquartered in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, ACTS runs 28 continuing care retirement communities across nine states (Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina), serving more than 11,000 residents.

ACTS offers a continuum of care via its “Acts Life Care” plans, combining independent living with assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and rehabilitation on the same campus, with entrance pricing and monthly fees designed to remain consistent even as care needs change.

As a well-established organization, ACTS also engages in applied research through its Acts Center for Applied Research (ACAR), launched in 2003, to explore successful aging and contribute to the broader body of knowledge in senior services.
